New Gig Economy Weekly News Segment

Updated: Apr 15, 2023

It might not feel like it for you reading this, but it feels like a big step for me. A necessary step!

Recently, I put out a video, it was a sort of news segment style video where I did some casual commentary on noteworthy news events from the past few weeks. The main topics were updates related to the gig economy (freelancing, side hustles, fiverr, creative entrepreneurship) things like that.

The video did pretty well, I think it's currently sitting at about 2,100 views and has driven about 20 new subscribers to the channel. Which is great!

And guess what!? I'm going to stick with it!

I'm going to be publishing a gig economy Sunday segment every Sunday (if I can manage) on the YouTube channel. Why? Because I think it's important!

Freelancing has been around for a while, but over the past few years (especially during the pandemic) companies like fiverr, Upwork, and even LinkedIn have been carving out a foundation for what the future of the gig economy might rest on.

Freelancing, side hustles, gig style working arrangements are becoming more common. Less taboo. And honestly pretty necessary for a lot of people and families around the world.

We live in a time of uncertainty. Massive companies laying off thousands of people per week, cost of living is high, all that fun stuff is probably going to keep going on for a while.

The gig economy, and wider adoption of the gig economy by companies and individuals seems like a pretty good way to hedge against global uncertainty.

People will always need to work, make money, and help each other. Companies will always need help getting things done. The gig economy, in my opinion, is a great way to get things done regardless of what's happening around the world. Technology, and the internet makes it very accessible to a lot of people!

Because of that, I want to play a bigger role in getting the message out. Many people I talk to still have no idea what freelancing is and the term "gig economy" means nothing to them. That tells me that we're just at the beginning, there's a ton of room to grow, and I'd like to do my part to help circulate helpful information that might educate people on new possibilities for them and how they choose to make money.

Most of my videos are targeted towards people who already know what freelancing is and want to develop specific skills related to freelancing or doing a side hustle. This new once a week video will hopefully cater to people just now dipping their toes into the world of freelancing, and I hope will be a helpful resource for them even though it's just a once per week video.

What do you guys think? Like the idea? Hit me up on Twitter or in the comments section of any of my YouTube videos letting me know what you think would be most helpful. We're all in this together!
